HEALTH VISITORS
The Health Visitors are highly trained nurses. Their core case load is 0-5 year old children and their families. Working with families they can encourage healthier lifestyles and work in partnership with all other professionals to help families to this end. They are available for support and advice Monday to Friday 9.00 to 5.00 on 01963 32498.
SOUTH SOMERSET COMMUNITY ACCESSIBLE TRANSPORT (CAT bus) AND SLINKY
This very successful community transport scheme, based at the Balsam Centre has now been operating for 3 years in the Wincanton, Bruton and Castle Cary areas. The scheme operates a Ring and Ride door to door service for people who live in villages without transport or for those who are unable to access the normal bus service.
The service runs Monday to Friday from 0800 to 1800
For bookings and fare prices please call 01963 33864
Last year the scheme was allocated a new bus by Somerset County Council to operate the Slinky service throughout the area. The new bus increases availability and improves comfort. Membership of the scheme costs £2 and the fares are very reasonable. Holders of bus passes travel free within our operating area.
We also operate a social car scheme and are currently in desperate need of volunteer drivers to take people to hospital appointments out of the area. A mileage rate is paid to cover expenses and drivers are covered by the scheme’s insurance.
For more information on any of the above please call 01963 34594.
TRILITH
www.farmradio.org.uk
Farm Radio is an internet radio station for family farms, farm workers and others interested in farming.
Presented by Trilith, the Rural Media Charity, Farm Radio covers serious farming issues, news from local farming families, people, chat, memories and laughs-a bit like it used to be at market. For more information call 01963 33113.
WINCANTON FILM SOCIETY
Wincanton Film Society started in the Autumn of 2004, following a well-attended public meeting at King Arthur’s Community School. It operates monthly from September until June, showing a wide range of different types of films at the Performance Enhancement Centre at King Arthur’s, whose banked seating and easy accessibility make it an excellent venue, especially for audience members who have poor mobility. Membership fees have been kept deliberately as low as possible in order to make them affordable for everyone who would like the opportunity to experience film on a cinema-sized screen and in surround-sound.
For more information, contact Peter Gay on 01963 32552 or email info@wincantonfilm.co.uk or have a look at www.wincantonfilm.co.uk which is regularly updated. New committee members are also welcome to join the existing strong and committed team. We meet monthly at The Balsam Centre to plan the programme, publicise it and then make all the arrangements for showing each film.
