The Balsam Centre is a Healthy Living Centre and also a Children’s Centre for Wincanton and South East Somerset.

The Balsam Centre aims to provide something for everyone in our community. Our philosophy is to provide opportunities for local people to improve the quality of their lives.

A short history
The Wincanton Community Venture (WCV), a community led organisation, was set up in January 1997, to look at the needs of the town and the surrounding area.

The WCV was awarded lottery funding in July 1999, to employ 3 part time workers, a Project Manager, Project Assistant and Community Mental Health Worker.

After more fund raising the Venture was able to purchase the former Memorial Hospital in the centre of Wincanton as its base, which is now known as the Balsam Centre.
