The Well Bean Project

About the Well Bean Project
We aim to encourage and enable people, young families in particular, to grow their own food and eat more healthily by helping to establish vegetable growing in people’s own gardens or on any land we can get access to, such as allotments, farms, school gardens. We can assist with advice, provide seeds & plants. We will help you learn and acquire new skills for growing your own food.
Using seasonal food which you have grown, collected from the hedgerows or from our food co-op, cooking skills can be learnt and practiced either in your own kitchen or here at the centre using our excellent training kitchen.
We also offer a range of activites aimed at increasing physical activity such as gym, swimming, dance, and flexercise.
Encouraging participation in activities within the community is beneficial to one’s sense of well being and belonging. As an outreach project we are able to work in the community and arrange activitIes which are accessable to all in the locations in which we work. These areas are: Henstridge, Templecombe, Bruton, Castle Cary, Milborne Port, Wincanton and outlying areas.
Fresh Food Co-op- We run a food co-op here at the Balsam Centre and also deliver to Templecombe each week. Somerset Organic Link supply pre-packed bags of seasonal vegetables which are all organic and locally grown (mostly in Somerset and Dorset). A bag contains a selection of seven seasonal vegetable which costs £7.00 Order before Friday for collection the following Wednesday.
