Mental Health Awareness Week
Celebrating the communities that support us to protect and nurture good mental health.
Community lies at the heart of everything we do at The Balsam Centre.
In fact, our official charity name – Wincanton Community Venture – reflects this core belief. We know how vital a sense of community is for our mental health and overall well-being.
It's why we offer a diverse range of community-based activities in a warm, welcoming, and supportive environment. Whether you're looking to meet new people, find a sense of purpose or belonging, boost your well-being, or even transform your life, there's a place for you here.
Here are just a few of the ways to get involved...
Chat Cafe
A weekly drop-in café where you can meet new people over a cuppa, enjoy a light lunch, and chat to the Health Coach. Newcomers always welcome.
The Little Craft & Art Studio
Health Walks
A great way to meet new people, enjoy local natural spaces and improve your health and well-being. All levels of fitness catered for.
Men's Shed
A friendly community of like-minded men who enjoy pottering in the shed. Pop in for a cuppa if you're bored or lonely and have a chat with the 'shedders'.
Groups for parents & babies
Our drop-in play sessions for parents and children, buggy walks and breastfeeding group offer a chance to meet other parents with babies and children of a similar age. You can also chat to our friendly team about parenting matters if you need some help and advice.
Groups for children & young people
We offer various activities for children and young people, in a safe space where they can come with their friends, or on their own and meet new people.
Changes peer-support group
A space for those experiencing challenges with their mental wellbeing to connect with others who are in the 'same boat', share self-help tips, and offer each other support.
TDAH!
A safe, confidential space for women with diagnosed and undiagnosed ADHD to get support and share their experiences with others.
Community events
We host regular events throughout the year that bring the local community together, from our Family Pride Day to our Christmas Extravaganza.
Volunteering
Our volunteers are valued members of The Balsam Centre team, and help us to extend the reach of our projects within the local community. Volunteering can also improve your own well-being through meeting new people, connecting with your local community, gaining new skills and giving something back.
Explore this website for more groups and activities, or drop in and see us at any time. Everyone is welcome.
