Fitness classes

Most of us know about the benefits of keeping fit, from keeping in shape, increased heart function and stamina, to the rewards of better mental agility. See below for details of the various classes we offer, which include some very gentle ones for beginners or those with limited mobility.

Yoga class

Yoga with Sorrel

Wednesdays, 4pm - 5pm (term time only)

Flow - Stretch - Breathe

Suitable for all levels

Cost: £10 for a single class, or pay £35 for 4 weeks.

Pilates with Louise

Tuesdays and Thursdays, 9.30am - 10.30am

Thursdays, 11am - 12pm

All classes are term time only

 

A Pilates class suitable for all fitness levels. Louise will provide modifications, adaptations and progressions suitable for all abilities.

Build strength, balance, flexibility and increase mobility in a friendly, safe and supportive environment.

Cost: £10 for a single class, or pay £40 for 5 classes.

Monday, 11am - 12.30pm, in Milborne Port Village Hall

Tuesday, 11am - 12.30pm, at The Balsam Centre (currently on hold)

Gentle chair exercises for people with limited mobility. Maybe you have had a hip replacement, or have a long-term condition that makes exercise difficult: come and join one of these friendly groups and enjoy exercise again. Both classes stop for a chat and a cuppa afterwards. All welcome!

A tai chi class

Tai Chi

Monday, 2pm - 3pm, and Friday, 1pm - 2pm, at The Balsam Centre

 

A low-impact exercise combining deep breathing and relaxation with slow and gentle movements. Tai Chi helps to reduce stress, improve balance and general mobility, and increase muscle strength in the legs

Tai Chi for people with Parkinson's

Monday, 12.30pm to 1.30pm, at The Balsam Centre

 

A Tai Chi class specifically for people with Parkinson's disease, to help with balance and muscle strength. This is a low-impact exercise combining deep breathing and relaxation with slow and gentle movements.

Health Walks

We run regular Health Walks for all abilities, from the complete beginner to the more experienced walker, led by trained walk leaders. They’re a great way to meet new people, enjoy local natural spaces and improve your health and wellbeing. Everyone is welcome.

Tuesday, 2.30pm - 3.30pm, at The Balsam Centre

  •  have some fun?
     

Age UK Somerset is dedicated to promoting the wellbeing of older people. They deliver Strong and Steady classes across Somerset, which are led by qualified instructors and follow a specially developed, evidence-based programme which is proven to help prevent falls, improve balance, and rebuild strength. The sessions are friendly and relaxed – why not join a class?

As we get older, the ageing process can affect our balance and strength, so keeping active is vital to helping us stay independent. 

​

Cost: £6 per session. You will need to fill out a simple health questionnaire to make sure you find a class that is right for you.
